Bandwidth Management: Part 3 – Guaranteeing and Protecting ICA/RDP on LAN/WAN
Wednesday, 29 March 2006 by Michel Roth
Andy Jones has written an article about how a particular third-party solution, Packeteer’s Packetshapers, can be leveraged to protect and guarantee session bandwidth for RDP and ICA.

"Bandwidth Management is one of the biggest challenges we face as server based computing engineers. This article is the third and final in a short series about Bandwidth Management. In this article we will look at third-party solutions for protecting and guaranteeing the bandwidth required for session performance as it applies to LAN and WAN traffic.

In the previous installments of this series, we looked at controlling presentation layer protocols, particularly ICA, with various methods. These methods included ICA Priority Packet Tagging (old school) and adjusting the various THINWIRE properties of a given server. Additionally, we looked at how Citrix Policy, a component of Presentation Server, can be used to greatly enhance and finely tune the bandwidth used by various VIRTUAL CHANNELS inside of an ICA Packet"
