Citrix's Multimedia Virtualization Initiative
Friday, 12 October 2007 by Michel Roth
Today I ran into a blog run by a Citrix multimedia product strategist Derek Thorslund. In this blog he's posted a link to video in which he discusses something called Citrix's Multimedia Virtualization Initiative. This is a cross product Citrix project to enhance the performance on multimedia across the board. It involves three main aspects: graphics (think Aero here), streaming video and realtime communications (VOIP, video conferencing etc.) One of the more interesting things Derek talks about is that a "major company" is pre-beta testing the technologies that is going to make the ICA protocol fit for delivering multimedia applications over high latency connections. Derek refers to the customer using desktops with multimedia applications and multi monitor setups over connections with a latency as high as 250ms and still performing great. Note that this refers to delivering a desktop, not just a published application.
