Citrix Announces Citrix Provisioning Server
Thursday, 11 October 2007 by Michel Roth
Citrix has launched a new product! Or have they? I've again found myself in the barren wasteland of the mysterious Citrix press releases. So Citrix today announced their Citrix Provisioning Server solution but what the heck is it?

Basically the only real information that is in the press release is that this is in fact the Ardence product. Of course Citrix aimed this Citrix Provisioning Server also towards virtual environments underlining that it can also provision virtual desktops. It is however unclear to me what this product actually is. Is it a new version of Ardence? It is a new product created from the Ardence code? Or is it just the version of Ardence that has been available for some time, nut just rebranded to "increase the products momentum" (I love that phrase). One thing that is clear is that this product is to be sold separately and isn't part of just the Platinum Edition.

My guess is that this is just a minor new build of Ardence with the biggest change being in the name. I will try and find out what's what. I can predict one thing: Citrix Provisioning Server will not get the most obvious TLA...
Check back for updates on Citrix Provisioning Server.
