Citrix Multimedia Virtualization Demos
Thursday, 01 November 2007 by Michel Roth
Remember I told you Citrix was showing their muscle in terms of their "multimedia virtualization" at the the Citrix Application Delivery Expo? Well, for those of you that weren't there, you can see for yourself now!

Derek Thorslund has posted a set of two videos of the demos that were shown at the Citrix Application Delivery Expo. One of these is on Project Apollo and one on the "Ulysses" audio codec .

Project Apollo demo

In this video from the Citrix Application Delivery Expo, Mark Templeton with the help of Henry Gancedo demoes the work Citrix has done in the areas of Vista Aero theme support, Vista Aero desktop remoting and WPF application remoting. The video shows a remote virtual Vista desktop running on a HP Thin Client showing Vista Aero complete with translucent “glass” effects, Flip 3D animation and a highly graphical WPF application. Looks really cool!

"Ulysses" audio codec
In this video Derek Thorslund interviews Modesto Tabares about the work he has done to dramatically improve support for audio on Citrix Presentation Server. In the video Modesto mentions that the current "high quality" setting of audio in Presentation Server can easily consume up to 1 Mbps in bandwidth. The new "Ulysses" codec promises up to a 96% reduction in bandwidth usage. The video demonstrates that change on sound quality from the "high quality" to the "Ulysses" codec is next to non-existent. Impressive.
