I just read an article at CRN.com that details some of the plans Citrix has for the near future. It reveals that Citrix will be launching a new product called Citrix Workflow Studio. This product should enable more seamless integration between all the different products that currently make up Citrix' virtualization portfolio.
The article has some interesting details. This is what I found the most interesting headlines:
- The introduction of Citrix Workflow Studio
Citrix Workflow Studio, a software package that composes the workflows of XenApp, XenServer, XenDesktop, and Netscaler. Citrix Workflow Studio should make it easier to integrate Citrix products with third-party technologies.
Pricing for Citrix Workflow Studio has yet to be determined. It is
expected to be ready for technical preview in the second quarter of
this year, with shipment expected by the end of the year. Citrix Workflow Studio is supposedly based on an acquisition of an unnamed Microsoft ISV that developed a
graphical workflow tool based on the Windows Workflow Foundation.
- New brand: Citrix Delivery Center
A new for the XenApp, XenServer, XenDesktop, NetScaler, and Citrix Workflow Studio collection of products.
- XenDesktop Server 2.0 Release Dates
A feature complete beta
version is expected to be released this quarter. XenDesktop Server 2.0 should RTM in Q2, 2008.
- Introduction of XenServer Platinum Edition
Features automatic provisioning of application workloads (DRS-like). List pricing to start at $5,000.

You might not want to take the "supposedly" link to seriously as there are a few errors in it already. They refer to XenDesktop as a XenSource product and have apparently never heard of the Access Gateway or Linux ICA client or the fact that you can run web interface on Linux. Of course Citrix has had Presentation Server for Unix but not Linux which might have something to do with the lack of business critical GUI applications on the platform that are NOT served by Apache or other web server.
It is true that Workflow Studio might be acquisitionware but the word on the street in Orlando was that they bought some IP, not a company.
That is indeed sloppy bu ZDnet. Not in the zone at all.
What do you mean by "IP" in your last sentence?
I'm assuming Rich is referring to them acquiring intellectual property (i.e. people/knowledge) as opposed to product.
Ah... thanks Shawn. "Intellectual property" for IP makes a lot more sense than "Internet Protocol".... ;-)
