Some time ago I mentioned that are particularly popular tool for Windows Server Core, CoreConfigurator, had been discontinued. In that same article I suggested that someone else would continue the development of this tool, because it seems to be so popular. Well, as it turns out, someone has!
This time around the CoreConfigurator is a opensource tool called Windows 2008 Server Core Configurator so this might speed up the developments. The Windows 2008 Server Core Configurator is a collection of scripts which will help provision and configure a Base Windows 2008 Server Core installation. The Server Core Configurator enables you to do all those 'little jobs' via a GUI. These tasks are configurable via the GUI:
- Product Licencing
- Networking Features
- DCPromo Tool
- SCSI Settings
- Server Roles and Features
- User and Group Permissions
- Share Creation and Deletion
- Firewall Settings
- Display Settings
- Add & Remove Drivers
- Screensaver Settings
- Windows Updates (Including WSUS)
This tool isn't as "smooth" as the original CoreConfigurator but it does the job. Check out the Windows 2008 Server Core Configurator.
