DeNamiK LoadGen 1.3 Released
Wednesday, 09 April 2008 by Michel Roth
I just got the heads up from DeNamiK that they are about to release the fourth incarnation of their popular Load-testing tool, DeNamiK LoadGen. This version packs some interesting new features as well as some changes in the licensing (good changes!)

For those of you not familiar with DeNamiK LoadGen, here's a short explanation of what the product does. DeNamiK LoadGen is an application that allows you to perform mass stress/load testing of your Citrix, Provision Networks or just plain RDP environments. DeNamiK Loadgen is meant to be a viable alternative to the CSTK (Citrix Server Test Kit) or other hard to use expensive tools.

One thing that I get asked about a lot and something that you need to be aware of is that DeNamiK Loadgen is a tool that makes it very easy to connect to your Citrix, Terminal Server or Provision Networks farm. It even creates the Active Directory users and mailboxes for you. What is does not do for you, is create the user-action scripts. So if you want simulate users going at it in Word and Outlook and all those other applications, you can use DeNamiK User Action Framework (DUAF). This allows you to record user actions and create a script out of it that you can use in your loadtesting (based on AutoIT).

Version 1.3 incorporates the following new features:

  • Performance monitoring during the Loadtest: version 1.3 adds support for Performance Counters, it's now possible to retrieve Performance Counters of several machines you define when running a load or stress test.

  • Hide Mailboxes: It's now possible to hide mailboxes and define the Microsoft Exchange Mail store in which the users must be created.
  • You can now edit users instead of getting the message the user already exists.
  • Stress Testing of Provision Networks Infrastructure: version 1.3 adds some routines to stress test the different Provision Networks components. See this separate document for more information about this feature.
  • Dozens of minor usability improvements & bugfixes.
  • Change in licensing: version 1.3 incorporates differences in pricing. The price has been lowered to €250 for a 200 user light version, which includes the performance monitoring.

I've seen and worked with version 1.3 and I have to say that it is another improvement. Especially the performance monitoring is a big plus. As always you can download DeNamiK Loadgen from the Thincomputing.net download section. Give it a try.
