Doug Brown On visionapp's vPMS |

"Like a growing number of Citrix ISVs, visionapp started off in 2002 as a services company specializing in Citrix deployments. From their knowledge around the need for an easy way to manage and deploy Citrix servers came vPMS. The original idea was to take their knowledge of best practices created from the consulting side of the business and build that knowledge into a tool that made it, “easier to follow than a written methodology”. Think of it like, “Methodology in a Box” but instead of being in book format it is a deployment framework. " "The core idea was to make it possible to deploy an optimized Citrix server farm and keep it optimized, rather than introducing anamolies by tweaking the servers from their consoles or adding servers to the farm months later and trying to duplicate them. vPMS works by automating the process of installing and configuring servers, applications and Citrix settings through what visionapp calls templates, application configurations which you combine with the application binaries to create packages, using Wise Package Studio . They currently have a library of hundreds of tested application templates for commonly used applications and more are added all the time. These templates can also serve as the model for creating your own templates, and they offer a packaging class. You can also apply outside parameters to packages so that it's easy to move an application package from a test environment to a production environment. This ultimately allows you to save time on application packaging and deployment." Read on at Doug's site.
