Of course you all had heard the news that Microsoft has released the first public release candidate of Windows Server 2008 in the form of RC0. The big news is that this CTP contains the Viridian code, a preview to Windows Server Virtualization (WsV). But RC0 is also interesting in other areas. RC in RC0 stands for release candidate, meaning that the features encompasses in this version will probably make it into the RTM. So let's take a look if anything has changed in RC0 in regards to Terminal Services since Beta 3. Well, as it turns out, some things have changed. On the bigger changes is that Microsoft pulled AD integration from "TS Web". TSWeb is a web interface for Terminal Server. You can navigate to a web page and it then shows you a page with application icons that you can click to launch a remote program. You could compare it to the Citrix Web Interface.
In Beta 3 you used to be able to have the TS web page automatically display the applications you are permitted based on Software policies within Active Directory. This is the same way you can deliver RDP shortcuts to (published) desktops using the Software policies section of the user part of a GPO. In RC0 however it looks like this feature for some reason has been removed. Check it out:

I'm going to take a long hard look at RC0 and report back with my findings should I find any other significant changes in Terminal Services compared to Beta 3. In the mean while, you could also try RC0 for yourself.
