Microsoft: We Will Do A Better Job At Managing VMware
Tuesday, 15 January 2008 by Michel Roth
I just read a pretty interesting blog article by Rakesh Malhotra, a System Center Virtual Machine Manager (SCVMM) Product Manager at Microsoft in which he details the plans for SCVMM to also manage VMware ESX Servers. The article is pretty head-on with statements like "We think we can do a better job"...

In the article Raskesh explains why he thinks that customers will choose / should choose SCVMM over other virtual infrastructure management solution, Virtual Center in particular:  "The primary reason that we decided to manage VMware was, quite frankly, because customers were asking for it...." "We think we can do a better job - At the end of the day, it's not about managing virtual machines. It's about managing applications and services"

Of course the article also is intended to show the huge confidence Microsoft has in Hyper-V being the hypervisor that will be suited for the vast manjority of all customers: "As I said above, we feel very confident that our hypervisor provides the best platform in the vast majority of customer use cases (that's for you to decide of course)"

All in all a very interesting article that almost is a downright attack on Virtual Center.

Read "Why we decided to manage VMware and what that means".
