Mike Laverick To Team Up With Ron Oglesby And Scott Herald On VI3 Book |
Thursday, 28 September 2006 by Michel Roth | |||
This book will be different from all others in the marketplace, as all three authors (Ron Oglesby of RapidApp, Scott Herold of Vizioncore and Mike Laverick of RTFM Education) have extensive experience in the virtualization space including implementations of ESX 3.0 since the early betas. The book will be edited for technical content by some of the world’s leading VMware implementers. This book is expected to be a standout from all other books about virtualization as it will contain two major sections that could (on their own) sell as individual books. The first section of the book “Design and Planning your VI3 Environment” will follow the look and feel of their past books, including technology and architectural reviews along with noted advantages and disadvantages for each potential design component in a VI environment. In addition, the authors will look at various uses of the technology within enterprise datacenters, outline how to plan for a major VI implementation, and will include a complete chapter on process and procedure development to ensure the success of your implementation. The second section in the book (a book unto itself) will contain detailed procedures and best practices for day to day administration and operation of a VI3 environment. This new section “Maintaining and Administering your Virtual Environment” will focus not on design or architecture, but the meat and potatoes of daily operational tasks with a focus on maintaining a VI3 environment in the long run. As you would expect from these authors, the content in the book is not watered down marketing-speak; instead the information provided is real world information gleaned from the VM trenches that have been dug since Beta 1 of ESX 3.0. Read it all here.
