Printer Detective

In Server Based Computing environment printers, or more accurately printer drivers are a constant pain. Having a universal printing product can take away that pain but sometimes you still need to get down and dirty with printers drivers anyway.

Getting down and dirty with printer drivers can be quite a hassle, Often you need to determine which printer driver is installed to which (terminal) server. Just using Windows to do that can be a daunting task. The good people at Citrix know this and have created a free tool that allows you to list the installed printer driver in detail and delete it or even copy it. They called it the Printer Detective. You can download it here for free. The official description says that Print Detective is an information-gathering utility that can be used for troubleshooting problems related to print drivers. It enumerates all drivers from the specified 32-bit Windows computer, including driver-specific information. It can also be used to delete specified print drivers. It also offers logging capabilities and provides a Command Line Interface (CLI).

This can be of great help in situations where a lot of drivers are installed to a Terminal or Citrix server. This is often the cause to facilitate network printing. What would be even better is to have support for universal network printing because you would not have the trouble of having printer driver on your Terminal or Citrix servers in the first place! Guess what? Quests' Virtual Access Suite has support for Universal Network Printing. Just so you know...
