Provision Network Shows Off Cool Future Technologies Including "SpeedScreen for RDP"
Tuesday, 11 September 2007 by Michel Roth
Provision Networks, a company that has been at VDI from the get-go has announced that at VMworld 2007, they will be showing their muscles in terms of the features that they plan to incorporate into their virtual desktop solution, the Virtual Access Suite (VAS) for VDI. One of the most cool ones is something Provision calls “Project GAP”. Project GAP stands for Graphics Acceleration Pack. It is what it sounds like. GAP will do multimedia redirection and graphics acceleration for the RDP protocol. I wonder where they got that idea? ;-) I don't care, I can't wait to get my hands on this "Speedscreen for RDP". Some of the other cool stuff that they are showcasing:

Keyboard and Mouse Acceleration: “Project TypeAhead”
Latency Reduction for RDP. Sounds fimilair, no further comment ;-).

Image Virtualization: “Project CIMS”
Common Image Management Specification. CIMS offers a system for booting multiple virtual desktops from a common disk image. CIMS drastically reduces the storage requirements and the complexity of patch management in a virtual desktop infrastructure.

Untethered Virtual Desktop Mobility: “Project GoVDI”
Through an OEM agreement with Vizioncore, a leader in virtual infrastructure management solutions, majority-owned by Quest Software Inc. (Nasdaq: QSFT), Provision Networks is leveraging Vizioncore’s backup and replication technology to enable the checking-in and checking-out of virtual desktops through the Virtual Access Suite.
