Updated: HP To Offer It's Own Universal Printer Driver
Thursday, 29 December 2005 by Michel Roth
VanBragt.net reports that HP will be releasing (this week) a universal printer driver which will supporting almost any HP colour en black and white Laserjet Printers. The Universal Print Driver (UPD) is a single driver with a standard interface that enables a user to find and print to HP PCL5 and postscript emulation printers. It was designed to allow corporate users and the IT department to rely on one driver rather than many. Both the PCL5 and postscript emulation versions of the UPD come in 32 bit version now and a 64 bit version in November. The UPD is simple to use, manage, and configure for basic corporate and mobile printing. Printer selection is done within the HP Universal Print Driver application rather than in the initial File › Print dialogs.

Update: the Universal Print PCL Driver was supposed to be released mid-november but wasn't released until recently. Download the Universal Print PCL Drivers here.
