VMWare's Player To Facilitate Future Google Step Into The Operating System World?

VMware in the official announcement for VMware Player 1.0 reported that the product will have a second release in early 2006 to be extensible and customizable by developers. In this announcement a qoute is included from Jeff Shardell, director of Google Web Search and Syndication, explicitly referring Google is working with VMware to provide search and security features.

With some creative thinking, it's not to hard to imagine that Google will build on the already released virtual machine for secure internet browsing (based on Ubuntu Linux and Firefox) to provide a virtual Google desktop system running from within the VMWare Player, perhaps even with a Google Office variant....
