RDP to VM directly from vSphere Client?
Tuesday, 02 February 2010 by Michel Roth
My colleague Rob Mallicoat pointed me to this cool tool by the clever folks over at xtravirt. It's a RDP Plugin for the vSphere client, allowing you to right-click and RDP to the VM from there. Cool! Free!

The Xtravirt vSphere RDP Plug-in provides integration of the Windows Remote Desktop tool with the VMware vSphere Client.

Utilising Remote Desktop to connect virtual machines provides a better user experience compared to the built-in VMware console as well as performing better across WAN connections.

System Requirements

  • VMware vCenter Server version 4 and above
  • Version 4.0.0 or greater of the VMware vSphere Client
  • Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5
  • Version 7.0 or greater of the Microsoft Remote Desktop Connection client

Download File Contents

  • vSphere RDP Plug-in installation software
  • Install and User Guide

Known Issues

  • Windows 7 and Vista with UAC enabled.  In order to correctly run the plug-in, the vSphere client requires to run with the "Run as Administrator" option, or disable UAC.
