OK, so if you want to have a really basic idea of what virtualizing your Windows Server environment is going to cost you in terms of licensing, Microsoft has put up a nifty page: the Windows Server Virtualization Calculator:

The Windows Server Virtualization Calculator provides two ways to estimate the number and cost of Windows Server Standard Edition, Enterprise Edition and Datacenter Edition licenses needed for your virtualization scenarios to help you determine the most cost-effective edition of Windows Server.

The calculator is pre-populated with the US dollar Open agreement Estimated Retail Prices for Standard Edition, Enterprise Edition and Datacenter Edition (yellow chart below), which you can update with your organization’s prices for more accurate estimates.

This promises to be yet another licensing massacre....
