Wyse To Solve Lingering Thin Client Shortcomings? |

The article I read mentions that Wyse has demoed a VDI capable unit, a new device called the T10, which was perfectly capable to display multimedia rich content and even deal with VOIP. I of course wasn't these but it will be interesting to see who this evolves. If anyone is to "do it", my money is on Wyse. Wyse has teamed up with NEC to create new devices. For example, NEC's new US100 is a palm-sized device (6.1- by 4.09- by 1.34-inches) that can be placed on a desktop or even mounted behind the LCD screen. The $439 device started shipping at the end of December 2006. "Wyse Technology, the global leader in thin computing, today demonstrated a breakthrough software suite for desktop virtualization, delivering a rich PC experience on a simple and cost-effective thin computing device. Based on Wyse Thin OS, the world's fastest operating system for thin computing, Wyse demonstrated unprecedented performance along with access to multimedia rich features in a desktop virtualization environment. The breakthrough in performance demonstrated by Wyse is enabled by Wyse Thin Computing Extensions, a suite of server-based software currently under development. These extensions optimize the virtual desktop environment to deliver a complete PC experience to a thin computing device. Wyse demonstrated extensions for multimedia acceleration and Voice over IP (VoIP), and announced future plans for peripheral virtualization. Combined with Wyse Thin OS, this complete software suite delivers a full PC experience in a desktop virtualization environment." Read the entire article here or read another article about it here.
